A look at the latest 'Mech game heading to Steam PC
BATTLETECH - Standard Edition
BattleTech has a longstanding history, beginning in 1984, and has seen various products released under the 30-year strong franchise - including the popular tabletop version and the BattleTech/MechWarrior PC games. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, which saw $2.7 million raised, BattleTech returns this year with a brand new style of play compared to the majority of mainstream 'Mech games.
We take a look at what we know so far, and what to expect, from BattleTech when it launches next Tuesday (April 24th) on Steam PC. Why not check our pick of awesome Mech games on PC too.
Story and features
With BattleTech/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman on board, gamers familiar to the franchise can expect the same futuristic 'Mech-busting gameplay seen in previous years. This time, however, the game will follow suit from its tabletop form with the inclusion of turn-based strategy, as well as RPG elements.
BattleTech follows the story of a violently deposed ruler, waging a brutal war to take back her throne with the support of your ragtag mercenary company. Players will lead their own mercenary outfit of `Mechs and the MechWarrior pilots through a ruthless interstellar civil war.
To survive and progress, you'll need to upgrade your base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute well-planned combat tactics to defeat your enemies. As well as customizable 'Mechs, the game is set to feature a skirmish mode and online PvP.
Despite featuring characteristics from the tabletop BattleTech - turn-based, etc - this game will not include its official rules of play - what a rebel!
