WOOOO! Can't stop the Train, baby!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Terry Crews interested in Gears of War movie role

He's been the majority of Gears fans' go-to choice for playing Cole Train, and this week Terry Crews has hinted that he would be up for the role in upcoming the Gears of War movie.

Former American football player turned actor Crews - well-known for his appearances in White Chicks, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Crackdown 3 - has made it publicly clear that he would love to be involved with the upcoming project, which reportedly has writers Stuart Beattie (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and F. Scott Frazier (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) on board.

The news began circulating following a tweet from Teen Wolf actor Stephen Ford, who said that Crews and Dave Bautista - former WWE star and Guardians of the Galaxy actor - would be a perfect fit for Gears characters Marcus Fenix and Augustus 'Cole Train' Cole. Crews retweeted Ford's tweet and said that he 'liked' the idea of both him and Bautista working alongside each other for the movie.

It's early days as to whether Crews will land the gig as Cole, but after Bautista's recent comments - in that he's actively attempted to be part of the Gears movie and has so far failed to get the producers to agree - it looks unlikely that we'll see these two curb stomping Locust heads.

Cole Train himself is a former American football player turned soldier in the Gears of War game series, and played a fundamental part in the Pendulum Wars and the fight against the Locust, Lambent and Swarm armies.

He made an brief appearance in Gears of War 4's story, and is a playable character in the competitive online multiplayer modes - but fans will be eager to see if he appears once again in The Coalition's upcoming Gears 5, which launches on console and PC on September 10th 2019.

Gears 5 is set shortly after the events of Gears of War 4, in which protagonist Kait Diaz continues her journey to discover her origins and how she's connected to the uncover Locust. GoW 4 protagonist JD Fenix will also return, as will his friend and fellow soldier Delmont 'Del' Walker and JD's father Marcus Fenix, voiced by John DiMaggio.
