About Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

About this game

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you...

Kidnapped. Imprisoned. Tortured. The wizard Irenicus holds you captive in his stronghold, attempting to strip you of the powers that are your birthright.

Can you resist the evil within you, forge a legend of heroic proportions, and ultimately destroy the dark essence that haunts your dreams? Or will you embrace your monstrous nature, carve a swath of destruction across the realms, and ascend to godhood as the new Lord of Murder?

Your Official Baldur's Gate II Steam Key gives you:

  • Throne of Bhaal: Travel to Tethyr in this thrilling conclusion to the Bhaalspawn saga, and delve into the treasure-filled halls of Watcher’s Keep!
  • Fist of the Fallen: Help the Sun Soul Monk Rasaad find peace in his quest for vengeance, and determine the fate of a heretical sect.
  • A Price Paid in Blood: Join the Blackguard Dorn in carving a swath of destruction across the Realms, as he struggles to appease the increasingly bloody demands of his dark patron.
  • A Voice in the Dark: Recruit the mysterious Thief Hexxat and take up her mission of retrieving long-lost artifacts from tombs as far away as Zakhara..
  • In Defense of the Wild: Protect the innocent and stand with Neera the Wild Mage against a ruthless school of Red Wizards.

Role-Playing Games have come and gone, A lot just didn’t make it and were quickly discarded by gamers and critics alike only a few manage to cut it off all over the years to gain that legendary status among hardcore fans of the genre. One of the such is without any qualms the Baldurs Gate franchise. Picking Off right where the prequel left off, Baldurs Gate II Enhanced Edition is nothing but yet another worthy upgrade in the iconic Bhalspawn saga. With enhanced graphics and the same nostalgic feel to it, Beamdog studios nailed it off with their remakes, delivering high-quality upgrades and the price is not a foot and a leg. To be honest, what Atari pulled off by considering remakes to this iconic franchise could be considered in the modern world as a fool’s doing since these remakes cost a tonne of money and there’s no guarantee that they’ll reel in enough to cover their development expenses at the very least, yet Atari took its chances and here we are 7-8 years down the line praising this franchises’ brilliance. ! About Baldurs Gate II Enhanced Edition ! Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition is a remaster of the role-playing video game Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and its expansion Baldurs Gate II: Throne of Bhaal The game was launched on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition features new content and widescreen compatibility. The remaster was developed by Overhaul Games, a division of Beamdog, and was published by Atari. The release includes remastered versions of the original Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and its expansions under an enhanced version of the Infinity Engine, known as the Infinity Enhanced Engine. Overhaul Games initially planned to release it in 2013, after the release of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, but due to contractual issues with Atari, Beamdog announced that the Enhanced would not be launched. On August 15, 2013, Beamdog CEO Trent Oster announced that the contractual issues have been resolved and that news regarding Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition was forthcoming. This edition was released on November 15, 2013, on PC. it was later released for Mobile devices with Crossplay functionality and Full-screen utilization. Timeless masterpiece

Baldur's Gate II is pretty much as solid as a cRPG can get because it's nothing fancy. And that's not a flaw: it's a strength. Combat is just plain old seamless D&D, which means that behind the curtain it's turn-by-turn mechanics but that if you're not looking under the hood it just looks like fluid actions, with a very welcome pause function thats let you micro-manage as much as you'd like... and a very customizable character AI that lets you NOT micro-manage at all if you don't want to. The viewpoint is isometric and (therefore) non-rotable, but that's never a problem because the whole thing has been thought of to be played exactly like that. Now to get to the good part: the people who wrote this game wrote it like pretty much nobody wrote games at that time. With a huge choice of companions that react differently to your actions and decisions, to the quests you take and how you run them, but also who interact uniquely between each other, you can manage to have a multitude of playthroughs that are nothing alike. Every single one has specific side quests, and some of them will take you to territories you did not expect at all. Every time I play BGII, I spend way more than half of my time just in the starting city, because it's so full of NPCs and sidequests you always end up feeling like it's an actual world, and, well... what more can you expect from an RPG, huh? If anything, the only thing wrong with this is the "enhanced part", with Beamdog adding content and characters that just feel absolutely off, but those are pretty easy to spot and just plain ignore.

I'm old enough to have played this the first time round 😅. The sequel to Baldur's gate, good fun if you liked the first one. It very similar in style, but improved from the first one.

It's a classic that I never got around to playing. The positives are great writing, and loyalty to the D&D (2nd edition) rules. The downsides are dated graphics, controls, and loyalty to 2nd edition D&D rules. THAC0 went away for a reason, but this game came out before those changes were made, so we're stuck with it. But once you get yout head around/past that but and you accept the graphics as "nostalgic", it's a great game.

A must-play for any RPG fan. Once you get over the (obviously) outdated graphics and the slow pace from the beginning you will discover a true gem.
