I have played Dark Souls 3 and Blood Borne and I consider those to be masterpieces.
This game somehow topples them due to the sheer amount of content and the outstanding sense of immersion. I found myself just exploring for hours upon hours guided solely by the awe-inspiring landmarks of the open world and the desire to discover what's hidden behind a rock formation or an incredible architectural detail. Spoiler: there is almost always something interesting and juicy to discover. Be it a new amazing item, a fantastic armament that might change your playstyle completely, or a hidden dungeon to explore.
This game knows how to wow and how to reward players in a consistent manner.
Also, the attention to detail is stunning, the world feels alive unlike any other open-world game I have ever played, the sound design is vibrant and exciting, You can explore with your ears, listening to the special tune of item-carrying dung beetles, or the growling of creatures ready to ambush you.
Finally is a fantastic sandbox that keeps on giving. You can completely forego the main questline and plunge into the varied and incredibly interesting (as well as mysterious) side quests or simply explore the world at your leisure and discover what's hidden in every nook of it. It's a refreshing experience and the game encourages all these gameplay options or a combination of them.

Incredible game, I never really enjoyed Souls games before, finding them too difficult to get into. Gave Elden Ring a chance and I was very impressed. Open World works wonders in alleviating my issues with the genre. My only issue is keeping track of quests as there's not quest journal in game.

this game is addicting....as you install it, say goodbye to your life, let your partner know you're going to be away for a while, tell your friends to take care and you will see them when you see them and just give everyone a heads up so they know that you haven't died irl....only in the game....a million times....over and over again, each death getting more and more brutal to remind you that you're but a wandering maidenless ant.
