About No Man's Sky

About this game

NOTE: This game can only be used with the Oculus Quest/Quest 2 when the headset is connected to a VR compatible Windows PC via an Oculus Link compatible cable

No Man's Sky is an ambitious first or third-person adventure set in a vast, procedurally generated universe.

Procedurally Generated Galaxies

Every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life — and you can visit any of them. The game features a nearly infinite number of unique planets to explore, each with its own set of flora and fauna. You can travel across the galaxy using your ship's onboard Hyperdrive engine, or take to a planet's surface on foot or in one of several vehicles mining for materials.

Discover New Flora And Fauna

There are many different types of aliens across the galaxy. Some are friendly and some are not. You will have to explore the universe to find out which ones you can do business with, and which ones just want your ship’s precious cargo.

Explore And Create Together

There are no set objectives in No Man's Sky; instead, players are free to create their own goals, whether it’s with friends, random people, or just on your own. Find a planet that suits your fancy, then create a place to call home whether it’s a simple shack or a sprawling futuristic complex.

To sum up. No Man's Sky has become one of the great games that everyone should play.

No Man's Sky is a game I bought at launch for the PS4. At the time I worked for a TV station as a video editor and as their "Video Game and Technology Reporter." What that really meant was they let me do reviews. In my original review of No Man's Sky, I said that while there were a lot of promises made about the game I still enjoyed the game. The exploration was fun for me and it fell into that "relaxed" game that you play when you want to unwind. Forward to the present and many, many, free updates later, and No Man's Sky has only gotten better. It now not only fits that "relaxed game" slot, but even more now. You can have action and adventure by hunting pirates or becoming one. You can tap into your artistic nature by building architecture or elaborate sculptures. You can explore planets and catalog the flora, fauna, and minerals like a scientist. And you can do this online with your friends. I've come to enjoy this game so much that I've purchased a copy on each platform it's been released on; PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo.

I have put several hours into NMS on console as well as on PC. The game is great to play both individually and with a group. The latest update for the game is like icing on the cake!

From broken promises to fulfilled dreams

A game that launched with broken promises but picked themselves up and started making dreams come true. Really love being able to take off and land my space ship without loading screens and such.

I originally played this on my friends PS4 way back when it released and had pretty much the same thoughts as everyone else. It feels like a much better game now with all the content they have been releasing for the past 7 years. I mainly bought it for the VR mode which is great and how I've played 30+ hours of the game so far. The performance is really smooth on my RTX 3060 with almost all settings set to high and textures set to ultra. I only get a stutter when leaving a planet while entering space. I use Virtual Desktop to stream the game to my Quest 2, however I noticed the performance actually wasn't as good with Oculus Link (*sigh*) with constant audio dropping for some reason and general hitchiness with fps stutters (yes, this is with the cable, VD uses 5ghz wifi). Just figured I'd put that out there for Q2 owners considering the game. Flying in VR is really fun, combat can be a bit intense to get used to at first but gets really awesome once you get the hang of it. If you get dizzy easily I probably wouldn't recommend it, at least not without the vignette filter the game provides you in the options if you need that sort of thing. Placing parts when building a base (either on a freighter or on land) takes patience in VR, and the controls take a bit to get used to in that mode if you plan to delete and move existing parts.

It took me years to get to this game, so I never saw it in its infamous state closer to release, but suffice it to say that the team must have been *very* hard at work since, as this is now an incredibly polished and feature-rich game. Graphics aren't 10/10 next-gen but they look nice (remind me a lot of Subnautica in that textures look stylised/cartoonish rather than photorealistic) and the game is extremely well-optimised, especially on a base 14" M1 MacBook Pro where I am running it at 3440x1440 (so ~2.5x the resolution and resource demand of 1080p) with no issues staying at a 30fps cap. At 1080p the FPS is more like 80-100fps. On my Windows gaming laptop the performance is even better. Highly recommended!

Me and my dad bought this game on launch and got bored very easily back then. Coming back 7 years later, I can safely say there's finally enough content here to make me wanna keep playing now.
