"The tale of Tokyo and Osaka, Kiryu and Sayama's partnership, and Kiryu and Goda's rivalry remains one of the Yakuza's best stories, and Kiwami 2's minor missteps don't affect...

"Sega’s original sequel has received the remake it’s due. The story fumbles in places, but its high points allow it to sit next to Yakuza 0 as the best the series has to offer."

What to say about this gem. Well, I can start with context. I originally bought Yakuza 0 on PC a bit ago but never had the time or interest in the series up until I forced myself to play this (I played Kiwami 1 a few years prior and it failed to peak interest in playing the series). And what a blowout that was. I loved Yakuza 0 with all my heart. But nothing felt more better than stepping out of the bubble to a more modern day scenario of Kamurocho in Kiwami 2. And I am so so glad I did. While I felt the combat was a bit of a step-back in terms of overall variety, Yakuza 0 and Kiwami 2 managed to keep at the edge of my seat where Kiwami 1 failed. As you already might have assumed, I did not play the original 2, but I feel that, despite the experience, this is a worthy remake in it's entirety. The only downside I truly have with this entry is how short it's story was. I found myself rethinking the events of the plot over and over in my head dozen of times saying to myself 'This can't be close to the end.' and then... it finished. No, it did not leave an empty feeling inside or disappointment. It was a feeling that... I would never be able to experience this epic in Kiryu's saga for the first time ever again. I wanted it to last. And trust me, with the bunches of incredibly fun side content in the game, it lasted. But it left me yearning for more. A.. Kiwami 3 perhaps. Boy, was past me in for a letdown, let me say... All in all, play it. Really, if you're going through the series, it would be a critical misstep to turn this game down. Honestly, the price could be toned down, this is less due to quality and more for lack of length. But if you ever see it for under, I would say, 50 out there. It's a definite pickup 1000%

Better graphics, worse everything else

There's basically nothing in Yakuza Kiwami 2 you haven't already seen in Yakuza Kiwami or Yakuza Zero, and the combat system is far less satisfying than those two games. Not being able to switch between styles makes fights repetitive and weapons have such low durability you basically only want to use them in boss fights. The graphics are way better, it's clear there was a generational leap in the engine, but the game isn't nearly as much fun to play.
