Best Picks for Steam Deck Newcomers in Our Build Your Own Play on the Go Bundle BundleFest Edition

Whether you're new to PC gaming or just new to Steam Deck gaming, our Play on the Go lineup is always a great choice for those who want to start their journey playing some titles! For our BundleFest edition, we had 17 total picks to choose from, but if that's too overwhelming, we have narrowed it down even more for you to be able to find a few great titles! Here are the best picks for Steam Deck newcomers!

It's worth noting that we are going to be mentioning eight games you can get with our bundle to be able to create the highest tier (third tier) and get the biggest discount possible. That said, however, you can always go lower or higher depending on your personal tastes due to the changes to how we handle Build Your Own Bundles!

Children of Morta: Complete Edition

Children of Morta: Complete Edition

Children of Morta is an easy recommendation for pretty much any instance, and it's no exception for the Steam Deck aficionados! This story-driven RPG is a roguelike experience where you play as the Bergsons, a family of super-powered individuals. As the Corruption starts spreading, you'll need to fight it back and restore the world once again.

It's a great experience, and you can play it solo, in co-op (for those who like to have their Steam Deck hooked up to a TV), or even online with friends either via Steam Remote Play or integrated online co-op! It has fast-paced action, and like any great roguelike, the more you die, the stronger you become, and the more you learn.

Bridge Constructor Portal Bundle

Bridge Constructor Portal Bundle

Welcome back to Aperture Science! Though this time you will neither be playing as Chell nor ATLAS and P-Body, this time, you'll be taking the side of Aperture Science! Your task is simple yet growingly complex: you must build a bridge so that a test vehicle can reach the test chamber.

It's a simple puzzle title that brings back one of Valve's beloved franchises back to life, if even briefly — Portal! As the puzzles get more complex, you get to find new unique ways to ensure the equipment makes it out in one piece. And yes, there will be portals — ready to build bridges?

Styx: Master of Shadows

Styx: Master of Shadows

We're ensuring to add a little bit of everything for everyone, and Styx: Master of Shadows is a great addition to anyone who loves stealth titles! This inventive title takes place in a dark, fantasy universe where you play as the titular protagonist as you infltrate the base of the enemy, sneaking, stealing, and assassinating anything in your path!

Many people have described this as a pure stealth title, and that's a pretty great way to see it — as Styx, you'll have a slew of movement abilities with incredible agility. You'll need to plan ahead for your routes, escape paths, and more, as face-to-face combat might not be ideal in many cases. It's a must-have title for those who love this sort of experience, and if you like stealth, or want to dabble into it, then Styx: Master of Shadows is the way to go!

Tunche

Tunche

We'd be remiss not to mention Tunche! Hack-and-slash beat-'em-up titles are great in handheld consoles, and the Steam Deck is no different! The first thing you'll notice about this charming title is its beautiful aesthetic, though you'll likely find a lot of love for its fighting soon thereafter!

You get to pick from five unique characters (including the Hat Kid from A Hat in Time!) as you embark on a quest to restore peace to the Amazon rainforest. It's a wholesome adventure, it has split-screen co-op, and it's great to play on the go (see what I did there?)!

Teslagrad Remastered

Teslagrad Remastered

10 years after the release of the original Teslagrad, Rain Games and Maximum Entertainment got together to create Teslagrad Remastered! This return of the indie classic gives you the opportunity to revisit a puzzle masterpiece of ages of yore.

You'll use the unique powers of Teslamancy to solve puzzles in this 2D platforming adventure! Whether you're picking this up to experience a timeless classic or are new to the title, 2D puzzle platforming excels in handheld consoles, and it'll have you wanting to solve just one more puzzle!

Frog Detective 1: The Haunted Island

Frog Detective 1: The Haunted Island

Look, we couldn't not mention Frog Detective 1: The Haunted Island — it's become a cult classic at this point! This short title has you taking control of the titular detective, as you try to solve the most important question of all: is the island haunted?

It's not really a question as to why people love these titles so much — they're wholesome adventures that give you the opportunity to just disconnect from real life and enjoy the experience. It's accessible, you get to use a magnifying glass, and you get the opportunity to have a dance competition at the end — what isn't there to love? And if you decide to go for this one, then we recommend you go ahead and pick up the sequel, Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard, alongside it. If what you've read and seen appeals to you, you'll be a fan of the franchise in no time!

Trifox

Trifox

We haven't mentioned a lot of titles where you can just unleash havoc upon enemies, and that's exactly what Trifox is here for! This colourful and cartoony title lets you play as a multi-talented fox on a quest to retrieve his TV remote after his home has been attacked.

You get to pick from three classes - Warrior, Mage, and Engineer — as you set out to wreak havoc on your enemies to recover your remote! It's a twin-stick shooter inspired by old 3D platformers and a perfect addition to anyone's Steam Deck library!

GRIME

GRIME

Play as a sentient black hole in a metroidvania souls-like platformer where you destroy, absorb, and grow! We wanted to add GRIME because it's the most difficult and action-packed game on the list, and we wanted to include something for everyone — action-packed and unforgiving was the last genre we hadn't covered just yet!

GRIME has seen four major updates after the release of the original game, Feedback Patch, Colors of Rot, Tinge of Terror, and Parting Shade, and they're all available as part of the base game! It may not be great for beginners into gaming and newcomers, but if you're looking for a great title to test your impulse control from yeeting your Steam Deck across the room, this might be the game for you!

You can get all of the games above from the Build Your Own Play on the Go Bundle BundleFest Edition for just £9.99! Remember: you can add, remove, or modify all of the titles you could possibly want, as there are nine other games we didn't mention in this blog that you might love! Happy Steam Decking!
