About Deathloop

About this game

Get your DEATHLOOP Steam PC key now to experience this FPS title by Arkane Lyon, the team behind Dishonored, in which you’ll play as Colt, a man stuck on the island of Blackreef repeating the same day for eternity. It is up to you to find a way to break the loop and free Colt.

Roguelike Gameplay

Every time you complete a day or die on Blackreef, the day will reset, and Colt will retain all memories — to find a way to escape Blackreef, you’ll have to explore the ever-looping island in search of information on how to break the loop. Information is your strongest ally, as you’ll need to learn how to manoeuvre around the island in order to slay as many Visionaries as you can.

Break the Loop…

How to break the loop? This is the question that you, as Colt, must answer so you may finally be free. You’ll be in charge of killing the eight visionaries — Charlie, Fia, Frank, Julianna, Harriet, Egor, Aleksis, and Wenjie — all in the span of one day. How you do it, is what you will learn with every new death. And once you know, it’ll be up to you to formulate the right strategy.

Or Protect the Loop

Invade other players’ worlds, as you’ll be able to play as Julianna and ensure that you protect the loop at all costs. Foil Colt’s plan to break the loop by killing him as many times as it takes to force him to concede. Earn numerous levelling-up rewards that will empower your Julianna and unlock some of the best tiers to protect the loop.

Steam Deck Compatibility

Take the loop that has befallen Blackreef with you on the go, as DEATHLOOP is a Steam Deck Verified title! Now you get to explore the island and play wherever you need to leave the comfort of your home, and plug back in to play once again on the PC!

It's a great game, it's got fun gameplay mechanics and a creative plot. I also love the multiplayer concept of "disrupting" you're friends gameplay in a PvP duel to the death.

I find the art style and atmosphere great, the gameplay quite smooth. The time loop mechanics were interesting for some time, but it forced to play through the same locations too many times. Runs well on steam deck, just don't use the frame limiting of Steam, because it freezes the menu (use the game's internal settings instead).

Technical Issues and Setup: Deathloop requires players to create a Bethesda.net account to play, which is an annoyance that should be disclosed on the store page. However, this is a one-time inconvenience. More problematic are the game's technical issues. The Void Engine, which powers Deathloop, is notorious for random one-second frame lags and crashes, even on well-optimized PCs. These issues are particularly devastating since crashing before a save point means losing all progress. While I managed to troubleshoot my crashes after a couple of attempts (solutions are posted in the comments), not everyone may have the patience or technical know-how to do so. Presentation: Graphically, Deathloop doesn't impress with texture quality but shines through its bold, high-contrast art style. The world is filled with thoughtful details: graffiti, advertisements, and stylish text overlays that guide players and reflect protagonist Colt's thoughts. These elements make the island feel alive and cohesive. The audio design also stands out. The jazzy, frenetic soundtrack complements the game's high-energy vibe, and the voice acting is exceptionally well-directed, making the dialogue feel natural and purposeful. While constant chatter usually irritates me, the quality here kept me engaged. However, the lack of proper spatial audio for enemy voices occasionally disrupts immersion—it's hard to tell whether enemies are near or far based on their speech. Gameplay Mechanics: At its core, Deathloop is a blend of exploration, action, and puzzle-solving. The game is divided into four parts of the day, during which players explore different sections of the island. This cyclical structure is both a strength and a potential frustration. On one hand, it creates a satisfying loop of discovery as you piece together the mystery of Blackreef. On the other, it imposes rigid constraints: no saving mid-day means crashes or real-life interruptions can result in lost progress. Julianna invasions—where another player (or AI) can hunt you down—add a thrilling dynamic. Player-controlled invasions are exhilarating but suffer from poor anti-cheat protections and severe lag for invading players. While the feature can be disabled, it’s a missed opportunity for those who enjoy the tension of PvP encounters. Combat and Customization: Combat is a highlight, offering a wide array of guns, gadgets, and "Slabs" (abilities akin to spells) that allow for diverse playstyles. Guns feel satisfying to...

After playing Dishonored and Dishonored II, I decided to up the ante and go for Deathloop. Glad I did! This game is different, yet the same. It has several known elements (literally, from skills to designs) that I know and love from Dishonored, but it offers different tactics and approaches to the game. From various time periods during the Loop, to different weapons (obviously, Corvo / emily only had a pistol, crossbow and sword as main weapons, aside of the throwables) with different bonuses they provide - you can have, find AND use different copies of the same basic weapon. To find a suitable approach, you really have to think your steps through - but don't be fooled; your plans may not work out as you intended them to. There are two options: Play as Colt to break the Loop, or as Juliana and protect the Loop. Again, I am glad I got this game, it has me hooked! Absolutely worth the money if you LOVE a challenge and the works of Arkane Bethesda :)

Deathloop is a masterpiece of gaming innovation. It seamlessly blends thrilling gameplay with a captivating narrative, creating an experience that's both addictively fun and intellectually engaging. The time-loop mechanic adds a unique dimension to the game, keeping you on your toes as you strive to break free from the cycle. The art style and soundtrack are nothing short of exceptional, immersing you in the stylish world of Blackreef. Every aspect of Deathloop, from its clever level design to its memorable characters, deserves a resounding five stars. It's a must-play for any gamer looking for a fresh and exhilarating adventure.

Good game, not great

Good game but disappointing for an Arkane game. After Dishonored and Prey, I was expecting some variations on Prey Mooncrash but got a much simpler game. It's also probably too easy, you can become really OP very fast. Cannot say anything about multiplayer, I didn't try it.
