About The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition

About this game

Developed and published by Bethesda.

The Anniversary Edition includes the core game, pre-existing and new Creation Club content, plus all three official add-ons: Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn.

The last of your kind

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you are the last Dragonborn – a mythical hero destined to slay the ancient dragons and save the world from destruction.

It's your own journey

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim allows you to live another life in another world. Create any character you can imagine by selecting from iconic races, such as Khajiit, Argonian, and Nord, among many others!

Aside from being able to look however you want, you'll also be able to customize combat to your style. Whether you pick up a shield and a sword or join the fight as a mage,  Skyrim gives you plenty of choices and builds to choose from. Will you step away from being a stealth archer this time? Only time will tell.

Vast lands to explore

Skyrim is an expansive open-world game with endless possibilities. Visit cities like Windhelm and Falkreath, or venture off the beaten path to discover hidden caves and ruins. From the frigid tundra of the North to the sun-scorched lands of the South, explore all of Tamriel as you seek out new adventures!

Adventures await

Solve puzzles, retrieve forgotten treasures, or simply take in the stunning scenery. No two playthroughs will be the same!

Encounter new faces, join factions, and make important choices that shape your story. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an immersive and captivating game that will transport you to another realm. So what are you waiting for? Your adventure awaits!

Official add-ons

The Anniversary Edition comes with the three official add-ons released for Skyrim!

Dawnguard:

Dawnguard was the first official add-on for Skyrim! In it, the Vampire Lord Harkon has returned to power and is attempting to use the Elder Scrolls to destroy the sun. You can stop him... or join him and become a Vampire Lord yourself.

Features:

  • All-new faction questlines.
  • New weapons, armor, spells, and shouts.
  • Ability to become a vampire: hover instead of walk, turn yourself into a bat, drain the life from your enemies, and more!
  • Ability to play as a werewolf, including an upgradable perk system!
  • Two places to make your home and upgrade: Castle Volkihar and Fort Dawnguard.
  • New locations, including the lost valleys and a new realm of Oblivion, Soul Cairn.
  • New enemies, including Death Hounds, Gargoyles, and Armoured Trolls!
  • Ability to change the appearance by visiting Riften's Ratway.

Hearthfire:

This add-on is perfect if you're looking to build your own home from the ground up in Skyrim! It's entirely up to you whether it's a one-room cottage or an enormous home base complete with an armory, alchemy lab, stables, garden, and more!

Features:

  • Choose your land and make your home — whether it's in the salt marshes of Hjaalmarch, the forests of Falkreath, or the vast tundra of The Pale!
  • Ability to purchase multiple plots and build a real estate empire.
  • A sleuth of rooms to add to your houses, such as an armory, alchemy tower, kitchen, trophy room, greenhouse, fish hatchery, mills, and more!
  • New home, new danger! Turn away unwanted visitors — such as marauding kidnappers, armed bandits, and skeever infestations — with your own fists or the help of followers!
  • Feeling tense? Hire a bard or a carriage driver to help with your burdens!
  • Adoption: if you're looking for a home and not just a house, you might consider adopting a child to fill up your life! With new ways to interact with your family, you'll be able to play games with them, allow them to have pets, and even gain new bonuses thanks to them!

Dragonborn:

The third and last add-on is Dragonborn! In this one, you'll be able to adventure off all the way to the island of Solstheim at the cost of Morrowind! This is all because of the latest menace — the first Dragonborn.

Features:

  • Uncover the mystery behind the first Dragonborn's return and slay them by harnessing the power of the voice!
  • All-new Dragon Aspect, which allows you to summon the inner power of the dragon to strengthen your shouts!
  • As you venture away from Skyrim, you'll find new dungeons to explore all around the island.
  • Go to the Daedric realm and collect forbidden books of knowledge to gain all-new dark powers!
  • New armour and weapons, such as the Bonemold armour and the Stalhrim weapons!
  • Encounter new enemies throughout your new journeys, such as the Ash Spawn, Rieklings, and more!

"Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is full of lackluster additions to a fantastic game. Some new areas are blocked off, quests feel like busy work, and the new items aren’t all that...

"Skyrim is still magnificent, but a collection of moderately executed additional content does not justify the new price for an old game."

Classic but overpriced

It's the dame old skyrim with a few extras. Hard to justify the price hike, but $20 on sale for this much content is hard to beat. And as a plus, it runs very well on Steam Deck.

Skyrim is awesome! After so long, it's still being supported, hence the anniversary edition! It is a little dated, but only slightly. It's no 2023 game but it absolutely holds up. And for a great price on sale, it's a steal!

It's a really good game with how much there is to explore and the amount of content in it amd the mods only add to it as well incase you are looking for more or feel something lacking. The bugs can get annoying at times but you can install a mod to help with that.

A golden gem of a game but also consider . . . .

I have not played this game since I owned the boxed original back in the day, however this time I bought the latest version the Anniversary Edition and I did enjoy it, lot of massive spaces to explore, location and MANY MANY HOURS of play etc So you really get your money worth out of this game for sure. However I felt it lacked a decent story, ES IV was MUCH better in this regard. Now do not get me wrong I enjoyed it, but I found the game overall VERY easy, I found one weapon, the Nord Honed Hammer, hit level 29 with 93 double handed skill and every BIG baddie was 2 - 3 hits before they were dead, most however were 1 hit, with the exception of the dragons which took 6+ Hard swings to take down, and of course the bosses end boss in Dragon Slayer and the Vampire timeline (Which BTW I enjoyed more than the Dragon Born story), but I never found myself angry or overly challenged, maybe this was due to how I built my character, I also found that the level up system was kinda pointless apart from upgrading health and stamina and the double handed attacks. I NEVER upgraded anything other than that, maybe speech a couple times. I NEVER EVER Spent money on weapons or armour, as I always found the weapon of choice for the majority of the game very early on including the Full Blade Armour with swapping out the gloves, boots and helmet twice, so even the gold / money system was silly, OH I bought a house and adopted a kid, other than that I never spent a coin on anything other than potions. Unlike the Fall Out series where you NEED to upgrade many aspects of your characters to get to hidden levels, quests etc, I found Skyrim just kinda handed it all to you on a silver platter. ES IV Oblivion is a much better game although not as pretty. Did I enjoy it? Hell yea, was ES IV and Morrowind better? Absolutely. After the main storyline and the vampire story line (Again I enjoyed that story line more than the main story line), I just found myself going through the motion of finishing side quests and not caring and lost interest. I put in 40 hours into the game so yea big bang for your buck for sure. It will be a very long time before I play this again. But those that have not played it for ages, it is worth a revisit. Just my two cents.

Honestly, this game has been one of my favorite games to ever play. Sure it has glitches; it was made in 2011. However, those glitches are what make Syrim, Skyrim. Whether it's the fortify restoration loop or invisible chests, they make this game. Not only does it perfectly combine RPG with everything else, but it succeeds at something many games haven't, and that is never running out of things to do. Even if you 100% the game completely, you can just restart, and get back on that carriage. I have lost countless hours playing this game and honestly, it's worth it. Some of the questlines are less than enjoyable, but many other aspects of Skyrim make up for it.

I can't help but love Skyrim - it's open ended, moddable, fun, and has just enough RPG and action elements to keep me entertained, not to mention the majestic atmosphere and incredible score by Jeremy Soule. It's a great game, however, it IS extremely buggy, especially with the additional content.
