About this game

Developed and published by Sega.

Take control of Kazuma Kiryu with Yakuza 0, the prequel to the original franchise set in 1988! Experience the origins of the story and play through the game's signature action beat 'em up playstyle!

Experience the Origin

Take control of Kazuma Kiryu set in 1988! After collecting a debt from a salaryman by beating him up, the salaryman is found dead, and the lieutenants of the Family — Daisaku Kuze, Hiroki Awano, and Keiji Shibusawa — inform him they are aware of his encounter, and he must turn himself into the police. Find a way to prove your innocence and find out who is trying to frame you for murder!

Three Different Fighting Styles

Switch between three different fighting styles on the fly and show off your expertise in combat as you battle your way through Tokyo. Change between the Brawler, Rush, and Beast styles to ensure your adversaries are brought down!

Explore the Night Life in Tokyo

There are other ways to pass the time aside from beating your foes senselessly. Explore the nightlife in Yakuza 0's detailed version of the city of Tokyo! Go to discos, hostess clubs (with modern-day geisha), and even classic SEGA arcades for you to enjoy! Take a break from the fighting and give your knuckles a rest.

Help Out Allies in the Red-Light District

With over 100 quests and storylines to uncover, help numerous citizens of the red-light district with numerous problems — help a budding S&M dominatrix master her passion and ensure a street performer makes it to the bathroom in time! There are countless characters to meet and help.

Yakuza 0 Review

Sam Jones
Staff Review
Combining real estate, awesome fights and a vast amount of enjoyable side missions makes Yakuzo 0 one heck of a purchase. It's a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, and provides hours of enjoyable action-adventure RPG gameplay. If you're looking for a game that has karaoke, kick-ass combat and an 80s vibe - you've found it!

A deep dive into a Yakuza classic

Through recommendations, I was advised to checked out Yakuza 0 by a few friends of mine. Without any information besides a few memes to go off of, I delved into this game relatively blind. I'm glad I did not look up anything prior to attempting to completing some of the side stories. Yakuza 0 is a drama through and through. Each time I pick up and play for through it's episodic stories, I find myself becoming captivated by it's world and it's characters. Even the side stories that bring along characters who show up for that one specific instance bring about a certain charming nature to the adventure. Above all else, the voice acting in this game is superb. Even in some situations where a one off character appears, the developers took the time out to include the voices of the NPC's as well. This goes far and beyond the typical standards in other games and I highly commend them for their work because of it. My only gripe with this game is the grind. While I understand the new to gate things for progression purposes, to procure specific abilities behind slightly annoying side quests can cause a bit of a hiccup in the experience. However, beyond that hurdle, the combat can be a bit clunky. Enemies can break entire combos and a specific enemy type can trap you in a continuous attack, leaving you vulnerable to their barrages if you are not careful. The good heavily outweighs the bad though. I highly recommend this game to anyone who hasn't touched the Yakuza series and wishes to get into it.

This was my introduction to the Yakuza franchise, and the reason why I am currently four deep into the series. Two playable protags, open world hubs filled with side quests and mini games, and a collection of over-the-top cutscenes. Excellent for virtual tourism.
