About Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

About this game

Join heroes Yooka and Laylee as they return for a new platform hybrid adventure in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. With this Steam PC key, you'll follow the quirky duo on a new mission to stop arch-nemesis Capital B.

HE'S AT IT AGAIN!
That dastardly villain Capital B is up to no good, his latest evil masterplan is to use a 'Hivemind' device to enslave an entire kingdom of bees. With the help of Queen Phoebee and her Royal Beetallion, you'll lead Yooka and Laylee into CB's 'Impossible Lair' in an attempt to thwart his evil plans.

2.5D IS THE PLACE TO BE
Enjoy a new yet retro perspective in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. Unlike the original Yooka-Laylee title, you'll explore 2.5D platform levels - each offering beautiful, rich visuals with detail and depth.

A NEW HUB
Head to the 3D Overworld, another new feature in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which is much more than just a hub to hop from level to level. Explore and unlock more 2D levels by completing objectives and puzzles in the Overworld, rescue the Royal Beetallion bees and find collectibles.

ALTERNATE STATE
Once you've mastered a level, go back and experience again with a range of alternate level states. Flip switches in the Overworld hub to create new landscapes - hook up electricity, submerge them in water, freeze or flip them upside down for radically modified challenges!

KNOW WHEN TO STRIKE (OR STING)
Feel free to tackle Capital B’s Impossible Lair at any time, but be warned as you may find it too much of a challenge without the help of the Royal Beetallion. Help free them by completing levels and add them to your defenses when planning your attack on Capital B’s traps!

YOUR OFFICIAL YOOKA-LAYLEE AND THE IMPOSSIBLE LAIR STEAM PC KEY GIVES YOU:

  • Rich visuals and colorful worlds to explore
  • 2.5D platforming levels with a 3D Overworld hub
  • The latest installment in the adventure platformer series
  • Developed by key creative talent behind 'Donkey Kong Country'

Very fun platformer and collect-o-rama. Great vibes and colorful. Clever difficulty scaling and overworld to explore.

I really enjoyed the mix of the casual exploration of the top-down overworld and and challenge of the 2D platforming levels. The platforming in particular felt great and while the levels could be a little challenging, they still had plenty of checkpoints. Each level also has 5 hidden collectibles that I enjoyed finding and since they are numbered in the order they appear, it's very reasonable to find any that you missed in subsequent playthroughs of the level without needed to resort to a guide. The overworld was more exploration and puzzle based and offered a great contrast to the platforming levels. I really enjoyed exploring it, though I did have to use a guide to find the last couple of secrets and collectibles that I missed. Probably the biggest flaw of the game is the final level. Simply put, it is an insane difficulty spike from the rest of the game. Despite the developer making it more forgiving in an update, it still took me hours practice and attempts to finally beat it. It's literally 20 minutes of challenging platforming and boss fights with only 48 hp to get you by for the whole level. To the average player, the final level will feel impossible, and while I know that's literally in the name of the game, the final level will definitely turn off a lot of players who had otherwise enjoyed the game up to that point.

Decent platforming experience with a mixture of enemy types reminiscent of Rare's old Donkey Kong Country games. The overworld is slightly gimmicky with puzzle solving and the ability to do the last boss without any levels being completed provided you can do it without taking a hit. The story is straightforward and the gameplay is pleasant in both colour and animation to look at even if the animations aren't quite as fluid as 2D games like Hollow Knight. Would recommend it for kids in particular.

Fun platformer! Don't let the cutesy graphics fool you - It's actually quite challenging. Also lot's of secret areas 'n passages to explore. If you like games like the DK Country series, then this might be a good time for you and a cheap pick up, too.

Honestly, I haven't played more than the overworld map. With this, I spent over an hour on and that was fun enough for me! This time around I actually bought it for someone else. Definitely seems like it will be a real winner. I've played quite a ways through the first game and enjoyed every minute of it.

This is a great collect-a-thon game, and the soundtrack is amazing, the same composer for Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64
