But what does the publisher have in store for us?
Game publishing giant 2K has revealed that it will not only be unveiling a new game this month, but a completely 'new franchise' altogether.
As reported by the team at VGC, the publisher confirmed the announcement during Take-Two 2022 Q1 earnings results call, 2K's parent company for those who didn't know.
During the Q1 call earlier this week, Take-Two president Karl Slatof stated: "Later this month, 2K will unveil details of another exciting new franchise planned for launch during this fiscal year"
With the all-digital Gamescom event just around the corner, kicking things off with live show on August 25th with guest host Geoff Keighley, the end of the month seems like the most likely time to hear about the brand-new project from 2K.
Take-Two also made a couple of other announcements during the Q1 call earlier this week. The company said that two of its "immersive core" games are set to be delayed for release until later in the fiscal year, as well as celebrating the milestone that Grand Theft Auto V has now shipped a whopping 150 million copies worldwide.
Some of 2K's most recent big releases from the back end of last year included the Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia: Trilogy, which revamped the popular action-adventure gangster franchise for new and returning gamers, as well as the likes of NBA 2K21 and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.
NBA 2K22 is already a dead cert for the latter stages of the year, but we expect to see a lot more announcements soon as Take-Two confirmed that the company will be publishing 21 games during this fiscal year that, according to CEO Strauss Zelnick, will include two "proven" franchises and two "new" games.
