Not like the rest of the Yakuza games, sure there is still the quirky weird random events and jobs and such, but the combat is quite different. From the traditional fight fight fight brawl type, it is more of a strategic turn based in a way. Still great, but odd in a way for Yakuza games, began as just an april fools joke by the developers, but then was liked enough that it was put in the game. And I can appreciate that, a sort of change in taste.. try something new. However, even if I do like the game, I would like it to be in a different series.. I like it, but I also like the prior games, so I would like them to still make the Yakuza games in that way aswell, not just this new one.

Really enjoyed the game overall, while I miss Kiryu from the previous games as the main character, Ichiban definitely made up for it. Music is good, combat is surprisingly fun for the studio's first attempt at turn based combat, the party members have great chemistry imo and so much more! Looking forward to playing the sequel.

The turn-based gameplay is super fun and keeps getting better the more you play and unlock cool Yakuza abilities. Some of the abilities, characters, minigames, and etc are from previous Yakuza video games, but you don't need to play the other games for this spinoff. The voice acting and plot are not the best in this game especially compared to the other Yakuza games. If the voice acting and plot were better it would be an easy 5 out of 5.

Look, you start off as a small-time yakuza and end up playing real-life Dragon Quest. And saving Japan, one quest at a time. In the end, it's Dragon Quest Yakuza.

A fresh, new start for a legendary franchise.

Like a Dragon is the first entry for the "renewed" Yakuza franchise. For the first time Sega decided to leave behind the beat'em up mechanics to adopt a turn based fighting system commonly used in japanase role playing games. And it works. The narrative is similar to the old Yakuza entries, with the new character, Ichiban, being very different from the statuary Kazuma Kiryu. There's a good supporting cast, but sadly they are not on par with Majima and old Yakuza legends, but Sega can fix this in later entries pretty easily. Between several side-missions and mini-games, a couple of optional dungeons make the game lasts around 50 hours easily. If you like games like Dragon Quest and you never tried Yakuza, this is the suggested starting point. Give it a try!

Another excellent story from the Yakuza series. Ichi is likeable and most of the characters are memorable. The new city to explore is nice, but does not quite have the compact feel of Kamurocho. Excellent side content as well, though a bit too grindy. The RPG style fighting was a bit annoying for a Yakuza series fan. Arcade fighting felt more like skill was involved. You need to overcome the numbers to be successful with RPG combat.
