Eh. I was really excited to try this game, but it’s just not very fun. I love rhythm games, I love the 90s aesthetic and earnestness, but it’s just not a lot of fun to actually play. Levels are very long and you absolutely get sick of each song well before you’re done with the level. Gameplay is very repetitive and basic, and there’s just not a lot to love about it. I know it’s hugely popular and highly regarded right now, so maybe I’m the problem. It’s just not good, in my opinion.

Incredibly fun and heavily stylised action game from the same creators as The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush is a GOTY contender and it only just came out! I love how it combines the genres of beat-em-up and rhythm seamlessly, and the dialogue + art style gives heavy nostalgia around the ps2 era of games. I heavily recommend Hi-Fi Rush, it's a game everyone will have a blast with!

This game can be compared to No Straight Roads in cartoon style appeal, rhythm mechanics, and quirky storytelling. What makes this game different displays its own strength. While in my opinion the world building or setting is not the primary reason you will play this game for since the story events are isolated from some sort of larger society.
Hi-Fi RUsh is great with delivering a Devil May Cry-like experience that is motivating through the weight of each action and bouncy sound effects that make each attack have real impact. Enemies have multiple knockback animations and the combos to be learned from this game is accessible through the limited pool while also having those combos lead to different final attacks.
What I hope for a next entry for Hi-Fi Rush 2 is that we get a new cast and hopefully we get to have a fully fledged robot party member or even main character in battles. I wanna know more about those guys so much! Also because I'm a NSR 1010 fan too hahahahahahahahahaha! Also a map and quest tracking would be cool too because these levels are SO BIG AND WIDE.

A very fun action game with an interesting combat system.
This game manages to implement a rhythm based approach to the traditionally fast and combo oriented gameplay of games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. The decision to have all moves (and environment) timed to a certain cadence affords the combat a good feeling of flow and timing attacks correctly feels satisfying and rewarding, lending this style of beat based battles well to these kinds of games.
And, although the story is nothing groundbreaking, the characters are fun and expressive.
