Eh. I was really excited to try this game, but it’s just not very fun. I love rhythm games, I love the 90s aesthetic and earnestness, but it’s just not a lot of fun to actually play. Levels are very long and you absolutely get sick of each song well before you’re done with the level. Gameplay is very repetitive and basic, and there’s just not a lot to love about it. I know it’s hugely popular and highly regarded right now, so maybe I’m the problem. It’s just not good, in my opinion.

I started playing this on Game Pass to try it out. After about 2 hours I knew I wanted to own Hi-Fi Rush. So far no regrets. If you haven't tried this game I would highly recommend it. It's great!

Despite usually having hard time with rhythm games, I'm having a blast with Hi-Fi Rush. That's due to the fact that unlike how rhythm games usually punish you for missing a beat, Hi-Fi Rush rewards you for sticking to the rhythm. Granted there are a couple of parts that play like your typical rhythm games, but you can tone down the difficulty for those parts from the options.
The biggest problem is the use of Denuvo, which may or may not be responsible for the occasional lag spikes and even some cases of audio and video desyncing, which is a major problem in this kind of game. Thankfully the desync mostly happened in cutscenes and the gameplay was usually unaffected.
